There
could be many things that weigh heavily on your mind when you are
choosing which kind of garden planters could work best around your
home. Instead of having each option running around in your head, use
the following list to allow you to get a better understanding.
So, without further ado, here are the six main things you need to
keep in mind when considering planters for your garden. (Drum roll
please.) The six factors, in no particular order, are . . .
• The 365 factor – Obviously planters are going to stand
up to the heat quite well. Unless you are living inside of a volcano,
you probably don’t have too much to worry about, even in the
hottest summer months.
But, most of these planters are going to be used for 365 days a year.
So, you need to make sure that they will be able to hold up in colder
temperature as well. If you want to find good cold weather planters,
try to buy some that are made of metal, wood or concrete.
So, that means that there are also certain kinds of materials that
would not be good to use if you want it to last in cold weather. That
means it would be best to avoid terracotta and clay.
• Let it flow – One of the things that determines the
success of the garden planters are the drainage holes. Getting one
that has holes already in it can save you some time and energy. However,
if it does not have holes, be sure to buy a material that is easy
to drill.
• One size does not fit all – Would you buy jeans for
a toddler that were precisely the right size, or would you buy some
that would fit for just a bit longer? The same holds true for your
garden planters. You want to be able to leave yourself and your plants
some room to grow, if you don’t do this, you will soon end up
wishing that you did.
• Take a deep breath – Anyone who has ever lived in a
smog-infested environment probably has a better understanding of what
it is like for a plant to be cramped in a planter. You must give it
enough room.
If the plant does not have enough room to breath, that means that
it could suffocate. Water and sunlight are important, but without
oxygen your plant is doomed.
• Living in a material world – This may not be a huge
concern, but it is something you should pay attention to anyway. The
materials from which the planters are made can either help or hinder
the health of the plant. For example, if you have a planter that is
darker in color, it could attract too much sunlight and thus ruin
the plant that it holds.
• More to love – If you have a plant that is particularly
heavy, you need to consider how strong your garden planters are and
how well they will hold up weight. If you think it may be weak, you
may want to consider a stronger one.
