A lattice is a versatile backyard item; and since it’s freestanding, it can be placed just about anywhere. It is an easy and beautiful way to hide unsightly outdoor items like air conditioners and outlet boxes. It looks great placed up against a garden wall or the side of a home. The criss cross design makes it perfect for growing ivy or beautiful flowering vines like wisteria or hyacinth and the best part is that the plants will flourish without much work on your part. Or try putting several screens together as a way to divide your yard or create a fenced off area.

Choose from metal, vinyl, or wood. Each material has great qualities. Metal, such as wrought iron, is excellent because it is durable and lasts for years. Vinyl won’t fade from sun exposure. Wood looks the most natural in a backyard setting and cedar in particular is naturally mildew and mold resistant which makes it perfect for outdoors. Over time the wood will change to a silvery color which many people find very attractive. However, if you wish to maintain that rich cedar color then be sure to use a sealant prior to growing plants on it.

Use it in a yard, garden, poolside or around a deck. If your yard doesn’t have many trees or bushes and you long for some privacy then this is the easiest way to achieve it. Instead of building a large, expensive fence that requires a lot of installation time; try a lattice screen. All you need to do is stick it in the ground. It’s that easy!

It’s easy to install and pretty much maintenance free. The only maintenance will be pruning the plants that grow on it. Keep in mind when you are placing your lattice that most vines require a lot of sunlight so place it in a place where the sun hits often so that your plants can flourish.
